The Guideline Fario is a dedicated trout fly reel, purpose-built, lightweight, and designed around the needs of modern fly anglers. Its geometry has been carefully optimized with large arbor diameters and narrower spool widths. Combined with a fully sealed, smooth-running drag system and a stable, lightweight construction, Fario is designed to perform equally well with fine leaders and hard-fighting fish.
The original Fario LW series was Guideline’s first truly dedicated trout fly reel, designed specifically for the demands of modern angler targeting brown trout, grayling, char and rainbow trout. For this latest generation, the goal was not to reinvent the reel, but to further develop a proven platform. The result is a stronger, more refined reel that retains the lightweight character and smooth performance anglers appreciated in the original design.
Stronger by Design
A key focus of the redesign has been to improve structural rigidity throughout the reel. The internal architecture has been strengthened with a reinforced central core and a more robust spool construction, reducing flex under load and improving overall stability. The result is a reel that feels solid, precise, and dependable when fighting strong fish. Balance has been carefully considered throughout the Fario range. Reel weights have been matched to modern lightweight trout rods, while a recessed reel foot positions the reel closer to the rod’s center axis, improving balance and reducing rotational torque during casting.
Refined Drag System
The drag system has been refined to improve functionality while maintaining the performance of Guideline’s proven sealed carbon drag design. Delivering up to 1.2 kg (2.65 lbs) of smooth and consistent braking force, the fully sealed system protects critical components from water and debris while offering excellent protection for fine tippets. The updated drag system features a 630° (1¾-turn) adjustment range, significantly expanding the range of available drag settings compared to the previous generation. The longer adjustment range makes it easier to fine-tune drag pressure, particularly when fishing fine tippets and targeting large fish. The updated internal layout also makes servicing, cleaning, and retrieve conversion easier than before, and no tools are required.
